Microbiome analysis 176 €

  • What kinds of bacteria are found in my gut?
  • Are the microbial communities in my gut diverse and well-balanced?

  • How can I further improve my diet and thereby also my overall health?

WHAT DOES THE ANALYSIS CONTAIN?

  • Stool sample, which is analysed by SYNLAB in the molecular diagnostics lab – microbial DNA is extracted and an analysis is carried out using the bacterial 16s sequencing method in cooperation with Elsavie.
  • Health questionnaire, which you will complete when you take the stool sample.
  • Written report of the results – Elsavie creates an in-depth report of the results based on the sequencing results and health questionnaire answers.
You can view the sample report HERE.

WHO IS THE ANALYSIS MEANT FOR?

The microbiome analysis gives you an overview of the bacterial microbial communities of the digestive tract and helps to make decisions related to your diet.

We recommend this analysis if you have problems with digestion (including prolonged diarrhoea or constipation), questions about food choices, you are over- or underweight, on a special diet, interested in improving your colon health or for other reasons.

Since the microbial communities are affected by your diet and lifestyle, the analysis can be repeated to monitor a meal plan, treatment, diet, etc., or their effect.

The microbiome analysis only determines the bacterial community; it does not determine the prevalence of fungi, parasites or viruses. The analysis is not recommended for the diagnostics of infectious diarrhoeas. We recommend additional tests if you suspect an intestinal infection. Please enquire further from SYNLAB customer service.

The comparison group used for interpreting the analysis results is comprised of individuals aged 18 or older. For younger persons, the comparison may not be accurate and age-related changes in the microbial communities should be accounted for.

WHAT IS THE MICROBIOME AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

The microbiome is a collection of human microbial genomes, which helps to determine human microbial communities. Microbial communities live alongside humans and under normal conditions do not cause diseases. The largest number of microorganisms can be found in the digestive tract. The microbial communities in the digestive tract are affected by age, genetics, lifestyle, pharmaceuticals, diseases, diet and other factors.

The microbial communities of a normal digestive tract are diverse and balanced (eubiosis). An imbalance in microbial communities (dysbiosis) is linked to various diseases of the digestive tract (ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, etc.), obesity, diabetes, allergies and other chronic diseases.

HOW DO I GET MY RESULTS?

The results will be displayed in this web portal within 3-4 weeks after sending the sample to the lab. You can find the results HERE.

The interpretation of the results may require further explanation by a nutritionist or nutritional therapist. If you need help with interpreting the analysis results and wish to receive recommendations on dietary matters, a qualified nutritionist can help you. You will find the contact details of nutritionists HERE. Please note that this is a paid service and the price is determined by each nutritionist individually.
