LDL-cholesterol in serum (low-density lipoprotein), (fS-LDL-Chol) is a group of lipids that is responsible for transporting cholesterol into tissues. LDL-cholesterol is known as “bad cholesterol” since excessive cholesterol builds up on the walls of blood vessels, thus facilitating the onset of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular diseases.
High LDL-cholesterol values are one of the risk factors of heart diseases.
Since the result of the test is directly affected by food intake, it is important to refrain from eating and drinking 10-14 hours before giving blood.
