Father to be panel 120 €
A man who is suffering from an infectious disease (especially a sexually transmitted disease) can infect a woman before and during pregnancy and thus endanger the health of the foetus and the newborn. Therefore, a man who wishes to become a father should also have his health checked.
There are hundreds of sexually transmitted diseases. The sexually transmitted and infectious diseases included in the preconception panel for men have been selected by doctors because they are the most common ones and can cause infertility, miscarriage and/or damage to the foetus if transmitted to a pregnant woman. Sexually transmitted diseases can lead to urethritis and other genital tract infections. However, they often cause no symptoms. If left untreated, sexually transmitted diseases can cause infertility in both men and women. The preconception panel for men includes 8 tests for the most common infectious diseases. The tests are performed on a blood or urine sample. A man who orders the panel will know if he has:
- from blood: hepatitis B or C, HIV, syphilis;
- from urine: chlamydia, gonorrhoea, trichomoniasis, mycoplasmosis.
Important! If a woman or a man has travelled abroad during the last 6 months, we recommend consulting an infectious disease specialist and/or getting tested for Zika virus.
Instructions on giving a blood sample and a morning midstream urine sample can be found here and here. The vacuum test tube needed for collecting a urine sample is included in the price and can be obtained from the nearest SYNLAB sample collection point.
