Giving a blood sample
- Give a blood sample in the morning before noon; the best time is between 8 and 10 a.m.
- You should wake up at least 1 hour before giving a blood sample.
- The day before giving a blood sample, you can eat and drink as usual, but limit the intake of alcohol, coffee and fatty food.
- Do not eat or drink 10–14 hours before giving a blood sample. If needed, you may drink one cup of pure unflavoured still water during this time.
- In the morning before giving a blood sample, avoid:
- physical and emotional stress,
- taking medicines, if possible,
- smoking.
- Before giving a blood sample, you should sit peacefully for at least 15 minutes in order to stabilise your blood circulation.
- During the procedure, your mouth must be empty – you must not eat, drink or chew gum.
